Hola mi amigos!
Boy oh boy. This week has been full of exciting developments. Not only did Matt and I move into our new home, but I also started my new job! Everything has just fallen into place so well so far and I feel so absolutely blessed to be here.
Moving to a new country, moving into a new apartment, starting a new job – it’s a lot of change at once. And I’d be totally lying if I told you I didn’t freak out about all of it a few times along the way.
It’s scary to uproot your whole life and plop it down somewhere else! Like, if you would have told me this time last year what I am doing now, I wouldn’t have believed you. It’s all way out of my comfort zone, that’s for sure. But going through all this and moving here has really shown me how important it is to get out of your comfort zone and really stretch yourself. I mean, look at the rewards! I love this beautiful country, I adore our little home, and my job is so amazing. If I didn’t push past some fear and doubts, I never would have arrived where I am now – and I am so, so happy here.
So if there’s any advice I could give you, it’s to just do it. Like, Shia Lebeouf was right. Just do it. You won’t regret it.
Anyway, off my soapbox for now. Now for the fun details! I’ll start with our new home.
What you’re looking at is the BEAUTIFUL village of Killiney. It’s on the southside of Dublin near the coast. And when I say near the coast – the train station is practically on the beach. I can hear the waves hitting the shore and smell the salt in the air while I wait for the DART (the train).
We live just up Killiney hill road on Military road. Bono allegedly lives down the way and the Archbishop’s palace is two houses down. There’s old stone walls covered with vines and berries along the way, not to mention stunning ocean views and plenty of lush, green trees. We’re also close to Dun Laoghaire and Dalkey, two lovely villages just up the track with lots of shops and pubs and things to do. The city center is just a quick train ride away, too. I love it so much.
Our home used to be the Archbishop’s potting shed in the 1700s and has since functioned in several other capactities before being renovated into our little studio. Now, I have to warn you: it is quite small. At first I was worried about the space – it’s about 350 sqare feet in all. However, we live on a lovely, garden-filled property and we’re just minutes from the train and the beach and everything else we’d need. Believe it or not, it’s actually really spacious in person. Anyway, without further ado, here it is! (Sorry for the formatting, this was originally on my instagram story)
Keep in mind, it’s not completely done. We still need to organize and decorate a bit and make it our own. I’ll definitely post updated pictures once we have it looking really pretty! Be sure to check out my “Tiny Home” story on my instagram page for updates on that.
There’s also some pets on the property we live on that belong to our landlords next door. There’s Fargo, who (I think) is some type of shepherd. He’s the one in in picture up there. He loves playing fetch and he’s taken to dropping a tennis ball at our door. There’s also Freddie, who is definitely a chihuahua mixed with something else. He loves pets and likes to peer in our window! Finally, there’s otto, a black cat that lives on our roof. He’s probably the friendliest cat I’ve ever met. He’s not around much, but when he is, he likes scratches behind his ear.
Matt and I are so excited to live here. It’s small, but we’re usually out and about, and it’s cozy and sweet and a good exercize in minimalism. I can’t wait to share all my tiny home adventures with y’all! Here’s some pictures from around Killiney:
As for my job: you’re looking at the newest Marketing and Social Media Manager for the Michael JF Wright Hospitality Group! I am so excited about this, you guys. There’s so much potential in this role and I can’t wait to make it my own.
For my friends in AZ, the Wright group is basically the Fox Restaurant Concepts of Ireland. They’re the central umbrella brand in charge of a multitude of bars, restaurants, and venues. They also have the largest nightclub in all of Ireland, the Wright Venue. It’s a really cool company and I am so excited about working for them. Here’s a list of the brands they (we!) operate:
Tonight Matt and I are going to Octoberfest in the city with our new friend Lou. The rest of the week will just be settling into my new job and getting into a routine! We joined a gym in Dun Laoghaire so I’m excited to get back into my yoga/cycling classes.
More updates soon! Be sure to let me know if there’s anything you want to know – I’ll do my best to answer!
